How to Reschedule a Tesla Service Appointment

Need to move your Tesla service appointment? Whether your plans changed or you're hoping to get seen sooner, rescheduling is quick and happens entirely in the Tesla app. This guide walks through the exact steps, explains the timing rules, and shows you how to actually land an earlier slot when the calendar looks full.

Reschedule in the Tesla app: step by step

All Tesla service scheduling is handled through the Tesla mobile app on your phone. Here's the general flow:

  1. Open the Tesla app and make sure your vehicle is selected at the top of the screen.
  2. Tap "Service" (sometimes shown as a wrench icon or under the vehicle menu).
  3. Select your existing appointment. You'll see the date, time, and service center for the visit you already booked.
  4. Choose "Reschedule." This lets you pick a new date and time from the slots the app shows as available.
  5. Pick your new slot and confirm. The app will update your appointment and send a confirmation. Your estimate and service notes usually carry over.

That's it. There's no phone call required and no need to email the service center for a routine date change.

A couple of timing rules to know

  • You can generally reschedule up to about 24 hours before your appointment. Inside that window, the app may lock changes and you'd need to contact the service center directly. Exact cutoffs can vary by location and by the type of work, so check your appointment details.
  • Cancelling vs. rescheduling: if you no longer need service at all, you can cancel from the same screen. If you just want a different day, reschedule instead so you keep your place in the system and your existing estimate.

Why you can't always move to an earlier date

Here's the catch most people hit: the Tesla app only lets you reschedule into slots that are actually open. If the next few weeks are fully booked, the earliest date the app offers might be the same one you already have, or even later.

Rescheduling to an earlier appointment isn't a setting you can toggle on. An earlier slot has to exist first. And those earlier slots do appear, just not on a predictable schedule. They open up when other customers cancel or reschedule their own appointments, which frees up a time that was previously taken.

The problem is that a freed-up slot can get claimed within minutes. Unless you happen to open the app at the right moment, you'll usually miss it.

How to find an earlier slot to reschedule into

You have two options.

Option 1: Check manually. Open the app several times a day, tap into Reschedule, and see whether an earlier date has appeared. This works, but it's tedious and you're relying on luck to catch a cancellation before someone else does.

Option 2: Get alerted automatically. This is exactly what SlotWatch does. We monitor your chosen Tesla service centers roughly every 5 minutes, and the moment an earlier opening appears, we email you so you can jump into the Tesla app and grab it.

A few things worth knowing about how SlotWatch works:

  • Email alerts only, and no Tesla login required. You never hand us your Tesla credentials. We watch public availability and tell you when something opens; you do the actual rescheduling yourself in the app.
  • Free to start — no card required — for up to 3 US service centers. When we find an appointment at least 3 days earlier than your current one, we email you which center and how many days sooner; you pay a one-time $19 only if you choose to unlock the exact date and time. If we never find one, you never pay.
  • You stay in control. We just make sure you're the first to know. See the full breakdown on how it works.

In a busy metro? Cancellations happen constantly at high-traffic locations. For example, see availability patterns on our Dallas–Fort Worth Tesla service page.

Can you reschedule to a different Tesla service center?

Not from the reschedule screen itself. Tapping "Reschedule" on an existing appointment only moves your date and time at the same center you already booked — it doesn't offer a way to switch to a different location. If a nearby center might actually have something sooner, the app doesn't surface that; you'd have to cancel your existing appointment and start a new booking there to find out.

That's the part SlotWatch handles for you. Instead of gambling on one center's calendar, you can watch up to 3 centers at once and get emailed the moment any of them opens an earlier slot — so you know before you cancel anything whether another location is actually worth switching to. FAQ

Can I reschedule my Tesla service appointment more than once? Yes. There's no set limit on how many times you can change the date, as long as you make each change before the roughly 24-hour cutoff and there's an available slot to move into.

Will rescheduling change my repair estimate or lose my place? No. Rescheduling keeps your existing appointment and its notes and estimate intact, it just changes the date and time. This is different from cancelling, which removes the appointment entirely.

How do I move my appointment to an earlier date if nothing earlier is showing? You can't force it, an earlier slot has to open up first, usually from another customer's cancellation. Check the app frequently, or let SlotWatch email you the instant an earlier opening appears at your service center.

Can I reschedule my Tesla appointment to a different service center? Not from the standard reschedule screen — that only changes the date and time at your current center. To move to a different one, you'd cancel the existing appointment and book fresh there. SlotWatch watches up to 3 centers at once, so you can see whether another location has an earlier opening before you cancel anything.
